Best for

  • Home laundry rooms with jars of washing soda, dryer balls and clothespins
  • Refill bottles of detergent, softener and stain remover that need a name and a date
  • Families who want sorting bins labeled Whites, Darks and Delicates, with a picture for the kids

Not the best fit for

  • Hazard labels for bleach or other chemicals: keep those in the original bottle with its own label
  • Care labels sewn into clothes, which need name tapes or iron-on labels
  • Labels that sit in water every day, unless you print on waterproof vinyl

How it compares

Why these laundry room labels fit real jars and bottles

Three things most free laundry label downloads leave out.

Sizes for jars, canisters and pump bottles

Most free laundry downloads come in a single fixed size. Here the jar design is 3 in (76 mm) square for a 32 oz mason jar or a lidded canister, the bottle design is 70 × 45 mm for pump and spray bottles, and both can sit on Avery sheets. Pick the size, and every label lands inside the cut.

Waterproof printing, explained in plain words

Laundry rooms mean splashes. Avery says a waterproof label must be printed on durable film with a laser or pigment-ink printer, and that a dye-based inkjet print is only splash-resistant. Print these laundry room labels on waterproof sticker paper, or cover paper ones with clear packing tape, and test one label with a drop of detergent first.

Sorting bin labels kids can read

Tap Sorting bins and hampers and 14 lines appear: Whites, Darks, Colors, Delicates, Towels, Bedding and more. Each one gets a picture icon, and the Picture + word design prints them 4 × 3⅓ in so a child can match the sun to the whites. Change any word and the labels reprint in a minute.

How to make and print laundry room labels

From a shelf of jars to a labeled laundry room in about fifteen minutes.

  1. List what you want to label

Walk through the room and note the jars, bottles, bins and shelves. In the label box, tap a word list such as Detergents and sprays or Powders and boosters, or type one label per line. Write Name | Dose to add a second line, for example Laundry Detergent | 1 scoop per load.

    • Label the container and the shelf spot the same way, so things go back where they live.
    • Write the dose on the jar once, and nobody has to guess how much powder makes a load.
  2. Pick a design for each container

Choose Jar label for canisters and mason jars, Bottle label for pump and spray bottles, Picture label for products with an icon, Sorting bin label for hampers and Shelf label for zones. Open Label sheet if you have Avery 5163, 5164, 22806 or 22807 sheets.

    • A 32 oz mason jar takes the 3 in square label comfortably; small spray bottles need the 70 × 45 mm size.
    • No label sheets? Print on plain paper with the cut lines on and cut the labels out.
  3. Print a test page on plain paper

Download the PDF or click Print, choose Actual size or 100%, never Fit to page, and print one page on plain paper. Hold it over the sticker sheet against a window; if every label is off the same way, nudge it with Move right or Move down.

    • If you use partly used sheets, set the Start position to the first free label.
    • Check the text size from arm's length: labels on high shelves need bigger type.
  4. Make them waterproof, then stick them on

Print on waterproof sticker paper with a laser or pigment-ink printer, let inkjet prints dry fully, then press the label onto a clean, dry jar or bottle. Paper labels can be covered with clear packing tape. Test one label with a drop of detergent before you print the whole sheet.

    • Dye-based inkjet ink is only splash-resistant, even on waterproof film.
    • For labels you will change, stick a clear pocket on the bin and slide the paper label inside.

Laundry room labels FAQ

Sizes, waterproofing, what to write and how to label safely.

Are these printable laundry room labels really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no email gate, no trial and no watermark. The labels are drawn in your browser and the PDF or PNG is saved straight to your device, so your lists are never uploaded.

What laundry room labels do I need?

Start with the products you scoop or pour: laundry detergent, fabric softener, stain remover, oxygen booster, washing soda and baking soda. Then label dryer balls, clothespins and refills, the sorting bins (Whites, Darks, Colors, Delicates, Towels) and the shelf zones such as To wash, To fold and To iron.

What should I put in laundry room jars?

Dry supplies suit jars best: washing soda, baking soda, oxygen booster, borax, dryer balls, clothespins and dryer sheets. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises keeping laundry products in their original containers, so use jars for items you are comfortable decanting and keep bleach in its own bottle.

What size are laundry room labels for jars?

Free laundry label sets are commonly 3 × 3 in, which suits a 32 oz mason jar and most lidded canisters. The jar design here is 76 mm (3 in) square, six per page. For pump and spray bottles the 70 × 45 mm bottle design fits better, and Avery 22806 gives twelve 2 in squares for small jars.

How do I make laundry labels waterproof?

Print on waterproof sticker paper. Avery says a label counts as waterproof when it is printed on durable white film with a laser or pigment-ink printer, while a standard dye-based inkjet print is only splash-resistant. Paper labels can be covered with clear packing tape. Always test one label with a drop of detergent first.

Can I print laundry labels at home without sticker paper?

Yes. Print on plain paper with the cut lines on, cut the labels out and stick them on with clear packing tape, which also protects them from splashes. Or slide the paper into a label pocket stuck on the bin. Sticker paper only makes the job quicker.

Is it safe to put laundry detergent in a different container?

Keep laundry products in their original containers where you can, as the American Academy of Pediatrics advises. If you do refill a jar or pump bottle, label it with the product name and date, never use a food or drink container, and store it out of children's reach. RoSPA also warns against unlabelled containers.

What should I write on a homemade laundry detergent label?

Write the product name, the dose per load, the date you made it, and a Shake well or Do not mix line. For homemade detergent also list the ingredients, so anyone reading the jar knows what is inside. Use the DIY, dose and care word list to add these lines in one tap.

What labels go on laundry baskets and sorting bins?

Common sorting labels are Whites, Darks, Colors, Delicates, Towels, Bedding and Hand wash. Choose the Picture + word design and the Sorting bin list to print them 4 × 3⅓ in with a sun, moon or shirt icon, which helps young children sort the laundry themselves.
