Why these printable spice labels fit your spice rack
Three things most free spice label downloads leave out.
70 spice names already written
Tap Everyday spices, Herbs, Baking spices, Blends & world flavors or Chilies, seeds & rare spices and a whole drawer appears: paprika, cumin, turmeric, oregano, cinnamon, garam masala, sumac. Fix a spelling, add a small note such as Ground or Smoked, or tap another list to add more. Every set of printable spice labels matches from jar to jar.
A 2 in round label sits on a lid up to about 2.5 in wide, a 1½ or 1⅔ in round fits smaller lids, and a 60 × 24 mm side label reads well on a jar standing on a shelf. Choose Avery 22807, 8293, 5293 or 5160 and each printable spice label lands inside the die-cut shape, or print on plain paper and cut along the lines.
Ground spices fade long before they spoil. Use the open-date design, write the day you broke the seal in pen, and a glance at the drawer tells you which jar to replace. McCormick suggests ground spices keep 2–4 years and whole spices 3–4 years, and it advises writing the opening date on the jar.
From a messy drawer to matching jars in about fifteen minutes.
01
Measure your lids and choose a label sheet
Measure the flat top of one lid. Avery 22807 gives 2 in round labels for lids about 2.5 in across, 8293 and 5293 give 1½ and 1⅔ in rounds for smaller lids, and 5160 gives 1 × 2⅝ in side labels. On A4, L3415 gives 40 mm rounds. Using other paper? Set Label sheet to plain paper, pick a size and print with cut lines.
4 oz spice jars come with lids from roughly 58 to 70 mm, so a single standard size does not exist.
Keep the label a few millimetres smaller than the lid so the edge does not lift.
02
Fill in the spice names and pick a design
Tap a spice list such as Everyday spices or Baking spices, then edit the lines. Write Title | Note to add a small second line like Ground. Pick Round lid, Small round, Side label, Open date or Vintage and the font, shape and colors update at once.
Lid labels suit drawers where you look down; side labels suit shelves where you look straight at the jar.
Alphabetical order is the easiest to keep; grouping by cuisine gets awkward because many spices belong to several.
03
Print a test page at 100%
Download the PDF or click Print. In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100%, never Fit to page, and print page 1 on plain paper. Hold it over the sticker sheet against a window; if every label is off the same way, nudge it with Move right or Move down.
Avery suggests printing a test on plain paper before using the sticker sheet.
Laser toner resists water better than inkjet ink.
04
Stick, write the date and put the jars back
Wipe the lid clean and dry (rubbing alcohol works well), press the label from the centre outwards, and rub for a few seconds. Use the open-date design and write the day you opened the jar. For kitchens with steam and splashes, use waterproof vinyl sticker paper.
Keep spices away from the heat of the stove, which dulls their flavor faster.
Use removable labels for jars you refill and wash.

Are these printable spice labels really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no email gate, no trial and no watermark. The labels are drawn in your browser and the PDF or PNG is saved straight to your device, so your spice list is never uploaded. Use them at home or for a small kitchen business.
What size are printable spice labels for jars?
Avery says most 4 oz spice jars are about 2 in wide and 5 in tall, so 2 in round or square labels fit best. For a lid, choose a round label a few millimetres smaller than the flat top; 2 in suits lids up to about 2.5 in. For the side of a jar, 60 × 24 mm or Avery 5160 (1 × 2⅝ in) is common.
Which Avery labels work for printable spice labels?
Avery 22807 (2 in round, 12 per sheet) is the usual choice for lids. Avery 8293 is a 1½ in round (20 per sheet) and 5293 a 1⅔ in round (24) for smaller lids, 22805 is 1½ in square (24) and 5160 is 1 × 2⅝ in (30) for sides. On A4, choose L3415 (40 mm round, 24 per sheet), L3416 (60 mm round, 12) or L7160 (21). All of them are in Label sheet; print a test on plain paper first.
How do I label spice jars: on the lid or on the side?
It depends on how you store them. In a drawer you look down, so lid labels work best. On a shelf or in a rack you look straight at the jar, so side labels read better. The page prints both, so you can mix them: lid labels for the drawer and side labels for the tall jars.
How can I make printable spice labels without Canva?
Open this page, tap a spice list, edit the words and download the PDF. You do not need an account, a template purchase or a design skill, and the labels already match Avery sheets. The Canva route only makes sense if you want full control of fonts, photos and clip art.
Should I put the date on spice labels?
It is worth it. McCormick suggests writing the opening date on the jar with a permanent marker, and its guide puts ground spices at 2–4 years, whole spices at 3–4 years and leafy herbs and blends at 1–3 years. The open-date design leaves a blank line for exactly that.
Can I use printable spice labels with a Cricut?
Download the PNG and use Print Then Cut. Cricut says Print Then Cut needs a machine with the sensor and the original Joy is not supported. This page does not make SVG cut files, so for a plain sheet of labels it is easier to print on Avery round sticker paper.
Can I print spice labels on a regular printer and plain paper?
Yes. Any home inkjet or laser printer works. For printable spice labels on plain paper, leave Label sheet on plain paper, print with the cut lines on, cut the labels out and stick them with double-sided tape or clear packing tape. Use sticker paper if you want peel-and-stick labels.
Are my spice label words private?
Yes. The words are turned into labels inside your browser, and nothing is sent to a server or saved to an account. Closing the tab clears them, so download the PDF or PNG if you want to print again next month.
