How it compares

Blog PDF tag sets
Often beautifully illustrated, but you write every name by hand and the set is fixed; some are for personal use only or sit behind an email sign-up.
Canva
Far more design freedom and photo uploads, but you need an account, some elements are Pro-only, and you lay out a sheet and type each name one tag at a time.
Etsy editable templates
Polished designs for a few dollars, usually edited through a separate template site, often with a fixed size and limited editing time.

Why these printable Christmas gift tags save time

Three jobs most free Christmas tag printables leave to you and a pen.

A name on every tag, from one list

Paste the names of everyone on your list, one per line, and each person gets their own tag with To already filled in. Twelve cousins, a class of 25 or 60 customer orders: the extra pages appear automatically and the last page fills up with blank tags for anyone you forgot.

From Santa tags that don't look like your handwriting

Kids compare tags. Tap From Santa and the tags read From: Santa in a script font on a Santa-suit design, with a short note from the North Pole. Use a different design for gifts from you, and Santa's presents stay easy to tell apart on Christmas morning.

Christmas designs that match your wrapping paper

Choose holly, candy-cane stripes, buffalo plaid, falling snow or a Santa suit, then a color and one of 15 icons: snowflake, reindeer, gift, tree and more. Every tag has a hole-punch mark, and black-and-white mode saves color ink when you print a big batch.

How to make and print Christmas gift tags at home

From this page to tied-on tags in about ten minutes.

  1. Fill in the tag

Type the recipient in To and your name in From, and change the message if you like. For many presents, paste a list into Names, one name per line: every name becomes its own tag. Tap From Santa in Christmas quick start to fill in the giver for you.

    • Short messages read best on small tags: Merry Christmas, Love, or Do not open until Dec 25.
    • Leave To empty to get blank tags you can write on.
  2. Choose a design, icon and layout

Open the template list and choose one of the five Christmas designs, then a color and icon that go with your wrapping paper. Set tags per page: 8 per page is close to a standard 2 × 3.5 in tag, 12 per page makes small square tags for stocking stuffers.

    • Use one design for gifts from you and another for gifts from Santa.
    • Switch on Black & white to save color ink.
  3. Print at 100% on cardstock

Download the PDF (all pages in one file) or click Print. In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100%, not Fit to page, and landscape. Plain paper works, but 65–110 lb cardstock (about 175–300 gsm) makes sturdier tags; check your printer's maximum paper weight first.

    • Print a single page on plain paper to check colors before a big batch.
    • Kraft cardstock gives a rustic look with the holly and plaid designs.
  4. Cut, punch and tie

Cut along the gaps between tags with scissors or a paper trimmer. Punch the marked circle with a 1/8 in or 1/4 in hole punch, thread ribbon or baker's twine through and tie the tag to the bow, or tape it flat to the gift.

    • A corner rounder punch gives the rectangle tags a store-bought look.
    • Stick tags on with double-sided tape when there is no ribbon.

Printable Christmas gift tags FAQ

Sizes, paper, Santa tags and what to write.

Are these printable Christmas gift tags really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no email gate, no watermark and no paid download. The tags are drawn in your browser and the PDF or PNG is saved straight to your device, so the names you type are never uploaded. Use them for family gifts, school or your small business.

Can I make printable Christmas gift tags with names?

Yes, two ways. For one name, type it in To. For many, paste a list into Names with one name per line: each person gets a separate tag, extra pages are added automatically, and spare tags on the last page stay blank for handwriting. Up to 240 names fit in one batch.

How do I make From Santa gift tags?

Tap From Santa. The tags switch to a Santa-suit design with From: Santa in a script font and a note such as You made the Nice List. Because the tags are printed, children can't match them to your handwriting. Many families also use a separate wrapping paper only for Santa's gifts.

What size are Christmas gift tags?

The classic store tag is about 2 × 3.5 in, the size of a business card. Here, 8 tags per US Letter page are about 2.3 × 3.7 in (57 × 93 mm), 6 per page about 3.1 × 3.7 in, and 12 per page about 2.3 in square. The exact size for your choice is shown under the preview.

What paper is best for printable Christmas gift tags?

Cardstock between 65 and 110 lb (about 175–300 gsm) holds up when tied to a bow; most home inkjets handle 65–80 lb easily, so check your printer's limit for heavier stock. White cardstock shows colors best, kraft cardstock suits the holly and plaid designs, and sticker paper works if you want tags without string.

What should I write on a Christmas gift tag?

Keep it short: the name, who it's from and one line. Ideas: Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Love always, Do not open until December 25, Ho ho ho, or for Santa gifts, You made the Nice List or Special delivery from the North Pole. Inside jokes and nicknames make tags fun for adults.

How do I print Christmas gift tags at the right size?

In the print dialog choose Actual size or 100% scale and landscape orientation. Fit to page shrinks the tags slightly and moves the punch marks. US Letter is the default in the US and Canada and A4 everywhere else; switch paper size above the download buttons.

Can I print black-and-white Christmas gift tags?

Yes. Switch on Black & white (ink saver) and every design prints as dark lines and text on a white background. It saves color ink on large batches, works on colored or kraft cardstock, and gives kids a tag they can color in.

How do I attach printed gift tags to presents?

Punch the marked hole with a 1/8 or 1/4 in hole punch and tie the tag on with ribbon, baker's twine or curling ribbon, or tuck it under the bow. Without a hole, use double-sided tape or a glue dot to fix the tag flat on the wrapping.
